Image Freak Boutique London @ Berlin Alternative Fashion Week 2017

Fashion month might have come to an end a little over a month ago but that doesn’t mean the fashion action isn’t still going strong. Berlin Alternative Fashion Week is back, running from Marhch 30th to April 1st at Halle am Berghain! Expect a riot of uninhibited creativity as 20 designers – this year from the UK, Poland, Italy, Serbia, China, Denmark, US, and South Africa- descend upon Berlin’s edgy Friedrichshain to express their vision of fashion on the runway of the city’s most prestigious club Berghain. The event kicks off at Generator Mitte with an installation of Berlin based label Atelier Rosenbaum, presenting its latest collection inspired by nature and urban space in modern society, followed by spectacular runway shows on Friday and Saturday, a designer market and a no-less-than awesome closing party on Sunday.

For decades, youth and bohemian counter cultures have influenced fashion, from Vivienne Westwood’s punk, to Gareth Pugh and Alexander McQueen’s Haute Goth and Rick Owen’s tribal dark, fashion has always gazed upon subcultures to break down social taboos and codes of conventional dress. Acknowledging these influences, Berlin Alternative Fashion Week has become the independent platform showcasing edgy experimental fashion driven by artistic freedom. From its inception in 2014, it has continuously sought to challenge the fashion status quo by introducing fresh and innovative ideas on its runway.

This years line up is promising, among many featuring Maison Mason, Ivana Pilja and exciting newcomers such as Freak Boutique and Lu La Loop.  Last year I interviewed the fierce ladies behind Therapy Recycle & and Exorcize, this year I will be talking to Studio Obectra, a label that has become synonymous with Berlin’s thrilling nightlife, about Berlin’s fashion identity, Berghain and what it means to present at BAFW. From Tzuji’s groovy models to the no-waste, up-cycled and no-nonsense runways of Therapy Recycle + Exorcize, there are no gender, size or age norms here, making this fashion week the most fun and forward-thinking fashion week you will ever experience. And you can leave your pumps home- this is Berlin- you won’t be needing them here!
